When it comes to the composition and mechanical properties of 1140 Steel Bar and Rod, this medium carbon steel boasts enhanced machinability. Typically, it contains 0.37–0.44% carbon, 0.70–1.00% manganese, along with small amounts of phosphorus and sulfur (the sulfur helps improve machinability). This resulfurized grade is often found in cold-drawn or hot-rolled forms. Its mechanical properties include a tensile strength of about 620–750 MPa, yield strength around 415 MPa, and hardness ranging from 160 to 200 HB. While it’s not the best choice for welding or forming, it excels in applications that require machining, strength, and dimensional stability.
